Fruitvale

Located about 4 miles southeast of Lake Merritt, Fruitvale is one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Oakland. Roughly half the residents in this neighborhood are Latino, and boy does the food and culture reflect it. You can find some of the best tacos in Oakland here!

Peralta Hacienda Historical Park is a fantastic cultural resource right in the middle of Fruitvale. Here you’ll find tours, events, youth programs, and interactive museum exhibits about the history of Native and Mexican Americans in Oakland, as well as a beautiful park and nature area around Peralta Creek.

The main commercial strip in Fruitvale is centered around International Boulevard, where you’ll find a variety of local shops, markets, and restaurants.

Nearby, you’ll also find Fruitvale BART Station, making commutes into San Francisco a breeze. There are also plenty of bus and express bus options.

The homes in Fruitvale include a variety of bungalows, craftsman style houses, and Victorians. If you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to check out the murals throughout Fruitvale as well.

All in all, Fruitvale is an up-and-coming neighborhood that’s full of culture, history, and a strong sense of community.
